Videos of the new Fort Worth PD recruit have racked up 2.52 million views between Facebook and YouTube over the past week. The video shows Chewbacca, the Wookie of Star Wars fame, as a rookie on the police force. With the 8th installment of the Star Wars franchise “The Last Jedi” set to be released next week, the video picks up after the tragic events of Episode 7: The Force Awakens and shows the Fort Worth Police Department rallying around Chewy to help him through this tough time.

This isn’t the FWPD’s first forway into Star Wars parody, last year the department released a video showing a Police Sergeant training a Stormtrooper at a gun range, that video currently has 57,531 views on YouTube and 20 million views on Facebook. The year prior the department released a video where the Sith Lord Darth Vader himself tried applying for a job at the department. All of the Star Wars parody videos so far have been about recruitment to join the Fort Worth police department.

Fort Worth Residents Completely Reject Possible City Logo Change 0 3109

Brian Bird is new to the Fort Worth City Council. He represents Southwest Fort Worth and recently made a recommendation to try and boost the national profile of the city in hopes of gaining interest from Fortune 500 companies seeking to relocate or build new operations. His suggestion? Remove the longhorn from the city’s logo.

It’s safe to say that right now Mr. Bird is not the most popular City Councilperson in Fort Worth. NBC DFW took a quick online poll which was spread around Facebook by Fort Worth residents and pages like “Fort Worth: Better Side of the Metroplex”. The response was resounding, 94% of those who voted rejected the idea of removing the longhorn in hopes of appeasing Fortune 500 companies and getting them to move their businesses here.

Fort Worth is home to the the headquarters for American Airlines and D.R. Horton from the Fortune 500 list and to several other companies such as XTO Energy, Cash America International, BNSF Railway, GM Financial, Galderma, Niagra Conservation Corporation, Pier 1 Imports – and we recently got a huge coup when Facebook built their newest data center here.
